[Webinar Invitation] Introduction to Marine Technology and Engineering - Innovation and Technology

2022-09-28

Since the demonstration offshore wind farms in the Taiwan Strait were designed for deployment at shallow to intermediate water depths (5 - 30 m), a long-term and reliable inspection solution would be required for O&M of the offshore wind farm. Autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) are safe, maneuverable, inexpensive, and are particularly suited to long-term, routine, repetitive, highly risky underwater explorations, inspections, or monitoring. As the targets of exploration missions become more diverse, the use of image sensors to supplement environmental exploration data has become mainstream. For example, AUVs can be used for mapping ocean topography and geomorphology, conducting long-term surveys of submarine resource, performing environmental assessment of waters with high economic value, tracking and monitoring pollution sources, tracking marine habitats, and inspecting deep-sea infrastructure and pipelines. The state-of-the-art marine technology and engineering established at NCKU will be introduced in this lecture.
