[Webinar Series] Recent Case Studies of Energetic Material for Propulsion by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chih-Yung Wu

2023-09-14

The fourth series of the NCKU Department of Aeronautics & Astronautics Online Lecture was presented by Dr. Chih-Yung Wu, an Associate Professor and Deputy Chair of the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, College of Engineering, NCKU. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wu has  extensive research experience on aerospace engineering, fuel space, thermal science, and laser-based diagnostics on fluid mechanics. Among his research topics include combustion science, propulsion, spray and atomization, and aerospace engineering. He delivered a talk on the “Recent case studies of energetic material for propulsion” to a group of online audience from Malaysia, Taiwan, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wu’s lecture contained fundamental of composite solid propellant, including some essential grain recipes for propulsion purposes. Composite solid propellant plays a significant role in aerospace engineering and national defence and always attract abundant attention. The composite solid propellant is a kind of energetic material for extensive applications and is still under fast development. In addition, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wu discussed some research progress on the combustion catalyst for the solid propellant as well as the ignition agent, which can be light-induced. The speaker also provided a copy of his presentation slides to all attendees for further reference.

The webinar was recorded and made available on NCKU Overseas Hub in Malaysia’s Facebook page via this link: https://fb.watch/n6pJ9aLxl4/. The online lecture series was co-organized by the NCKU Overseas Hub in Malaysia and the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, NCKU. The next and final webinar of the online lecture series is tentatively scheduled on November 15th, 2023 with the topic of “High-speed research at NCKU” by Associate Professor Dr. Gaetano. Currao.
