The NCKU Dept. of Computer Science and Information Engineering (CSIE) delegation’s visit to Universiti Malaya Faculty of Science Computer and Information Technology (UM FSCIT) marked a significant step to enhance the academic collaboration between these institutions. Prof Dr. Shyh-Hau Wang who is also the Chairman of the Institute of Medical Informatic led the two-days delegation visit. Prof. Wang was accompanied by Prof. Yeim-Kuan Chang (Director of the MS Program for Continuing Education & Industry), Prof. Sheng-Fu Liang (Director of the AI Digital Center) and Miss Yu Tsai (Department Assistant).

The brief visit laid the groundwork for the in-depth collaboration between NCKU and UM.  Among the topic of discussions were joint research activities and lectures, short- and long-term academic programs, dual PhD programs and participation in seminars and academic meetings. A research talk on “AIoT Technologies and Applications for Health and Safety” by Prof. Sheng-Fu Liang was scheduled on the second day as one of the engagement activities with researchers and students at the faculty. The highlight of this visit was the dual PhD program agreement signing between NCKU CSIE and UM FCSIT.

In addition, the delegates were able to meet with Dr. Nurhafiza binti Zainal, , the first dual PhD holder from NCKU and UM (Medical Microbiology). She is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Dept. of Medical Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine, UM. Before concluding the visit, the delegates also toured the NCKU Overseas Hub in Malaysia’s office at the Faculty of Engineering, UM. Possible collaboration activities were discussed to strengthen the partnership further, especially in academic and research initiatives.
