[Workshop Invitation] From Campus to Community: Design Thinking for Smart and Barrier-free Environment

Workshop Highlights:

This workshop provides students with the opportunity to:

  1. Explore Accessibility in Practice:

Visit Tainan’s historical sites with instructors with disabilities, assess accessibility, and gain hands-on experience evaluating real-world environments.

  1. Engage in Design Thinking:

Participate in interactive group discussions and activities to develop creative, user-friendly solutions inspired by universal design principles.

  1. Experience AI and AR Applications:

Learn to use cutting-edge AI and AR tools to simulate and analyze accessible environments, enhancing your ability to create innovative solutions.

  1. Experience Taiwan’s Academic:

Tour National Cheng Kung University’s campus to understand the environment of Taiwan’s higher education.

  1. Collaborate Across Cultures and Disciplines:

Work with participants from diverse backgrounds to exchange ideas and develop interdisciplinary approaches to accessibility challenges.

 

Tentative Itinerary

Day 1: Academic Exploration at National Cheng Kung University

A campus visit to National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) is scheduled to provide participants firsthand experience of Taiwan’s higher education learning environment and research atmosphere. Additionally, the visit aims to enhance participants' understanding of the built environment and associated needs of individuals with disabilities and older adults.

Day 2: Design Thinking and the Smart Inclusive Environment

In the morning, individuals with disabilities will be invited to join a guided tour of Tainan’s historical sites, utilizing augmented reality (AR) for an accessible environmental assessment and interpretation. In the afternoon, design thinking principles will be introduced, guiding students through group discussions and hands-on activities to analyze potential challenges faced by individuals with diverse disabilities in this context. Emphasizing the spirit of universal design, the session will integrate technological elements into the curriculum, providing opportunities for students to learn how to effectively utilize AI tools and develop inclusive design proposals that cater to a wide range of user needs.
