Webinar on "Unlock Your Future in Allied Health Sciences at NCKU"

On May 20, 2025, the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Overseas Hub in Malaysia hosted a special webinar titled Unlock Your Future in Allied Health Sciences at NCKU. The event showcased postgraduate opportunities in the field of Allied Health Sciences, attracting students, especially from Malaysia, who are keen to explore Master’s, PhD, internship, and scholarship options in Taiwan.

 

Seven distinguished speakers from NCKU’s College of Medicine shared insights into their research, academic programs, and the international student experience at the university.

 

Prof. Hui-Ching Weng – Director, Institute of Allied Health Sciences (AHS)
Prof. Weng introduced her innovative research using eye tracking and GSR technology to study memory and emotional response in older adults. Students interested in her work should have a basic background in gerontology. She emphasized that the PhD program is fully taught in English.

 

Assoc. Prof. Ling-Hui Chang and Asst. Prof. Chia-Fen Hsu – Department of Occupational Therapy
They shared how their department blends technology and therapy, offering advanced tools like infrared cameras and home-based rehab systems. Their research spans ADHD, autism, and postpartum mental health. The program encourages community engagement and international collaboration.

 

Prof. Chang highlighted her community-based cognitive intervention programs for older adults, showing real-world success in delaying cognitive decline. She also develops mental wellness initiatives for university students and supports Taiwan’s home-based elderly care reforms.

 

Prof. Chung-Ying Lin – Occupational Therapy Group

His research focuses on digital behavior, internet addiction, self-stigma, and mental health. He works with global collaborators and has developed validated tools to assess online behavioral issues and their mental health impacts.

 

Prof. Kun-Ling Tsai – Chair, Department of Physical Therapy

Prof. Tsai specializes in cancer and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, integrating AI for home-based monitoring and real-time feedback. His team develops early interventions for cancer patients and rehabilitation strategies for post-COVID-19 recovery.

 

Miss Yap Kah Ying – Malaysian PhD student

Miss Yap shared on why she chose the Institute of AHS, NCKU for her postgraduate studies, the support she received as an international student, the challenges she faced adjusting to life at NCKU, the facilities available at AHS, and how Malaysian student activities and clubs helped her stay connected to the community.
