The NCKU Overseas Hub in Malaysia was pleased to host Assoc. Prof. Dr. Che-Wei (Johnny) Lin from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, College of Engineering, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) during his visit to Universiti Malaya (UM) on 7–8 July 2025.

On the first day, Dr. Lin met with his co-researchers, Dr. Chan Chow Khuen and Dr. Nur Afiqah binti Hashim from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, UM, to discuss the progress of their co-supervised PhD student, Miss Lai Koi Qi. Dr. Chan previously participated in the "Researcher Mobility & Networking Program" organized by the NCKU Overseas Hub in Malaysia in December 2023, which facilitated a short-term visit to NCKU and initiated the partnership with Dr. Lin.

The Malaysia Hub also arranged a meeting between Dr. Lin and Prof. Dr. Loo Chu Kiong from the Department of Artificial Intelligence, Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, UM. The discussion was fruitful, with Dr. Lin expressing strong interest in future collaboration with the AI department.

As part of the visit, the Hub coordinated a courtesy visit for Dr. Lin and Taiwanese delegates to the UM Centre of Innovation and Enterprise (UMCIE) before the networking session. The visit provided an overview of UMCIE’s role in fostering innovation, promoting research commercialization, and identifying collaboration opportunities between UM and Taiwan’s biomedical and medtech sectors.

A two-hour networking event followed, emceed by Dr. Kwong Soke Chee from the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine (FOM), UM. Prof. Dr. Ivy Chung (Director of NCKU Overseas Hub in Malaysia and Professor at the Department of Pharmacology, FOM, UM) welcomed the delegates and attendees. Director Chen Yi Chen from the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC) also delivered a speech, expressing appreciation to the Malaysia Hub and UM for hosting the event.

The highlight of the event included presentations by Soteria Biotech INC, Biomedica Corporation, SIGKNOW INC, and NCKU’s Department of Biomedical Engineering. The delegates had the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions and explore collaboration with local experts, researchers, and postgraduate students. Representatives from various UM departments—including Biomedical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Chemistry, Pharmacology, and Surgery—as well as RD Narifda Consultants, were present.
