AISSM @ UM: From Dialogue to Strategic Collaboration

On 16 April 2026, the Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing (AISSM), National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Taiwan conducted a courtesy visit to Universiti Malaya (UM), marking another important milestone in strengthening Malaysia–Taiwan academic collaboration.
The AISSM delegation was represented by Prof. Hsu Wei-Chou (Dean), Prof. Chou Ming-Chi (Associate Dean) and Prof. Chiou Lih-Yih (Director, Integrated Circuit Design Programme).
The session was joined by key representatives from UM, Prof. Dr. Saiful Anuar Karsani (Dean, Faculty of Science), Dr. Muhammad Khairi Faiz Ahmad Hairuddin, (Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering), Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Chuah Joon Huang (Department of Chemical Engineering), Miss Farra Nabila Mokhlis (Global Mobility Centre), Mr. Muhamad Khairul Anuar (International Relations). The visit was supported and coordinated by Ms. Haridah Alias (NCKU Overseas Hub in Malaysia).
The programme began with opening remarks and institutional introductions, followed by focused discussions on technical exchange in semiconductor-related fields, NCKU AISSM International Seed Fund (student mobility & joint research), Semiconductor Summer School programmes and faculty-level partnerships including student exchange and dual-degree pathways.
The engagement continued with a laboratory tour at Department of Electrical Engineering, including visits to the NXP Lab, Robotic Lab, and PCB Lab, providing firsthand exposure to UM’s research ecosystem. The visit was accompanied by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Anis Salwa Mohd Khairuddin, Dr. Mohd Faiz Mohd Salleh, and Dr. Megat Muhammad Ikhsan Megat Hasnan, who provided valuable insights into the labs’ research activities and facilities.
Beyond the session, both institutions identified strong potential for collaboration across key areas such as semiconductor technology, engineering systems, materials science, AI, and sustainable energy, paving the way for impactful joint initiatives and talent development.
The visit concluded with a token exchange and group photo—symbolizing a shared commitment towards long-term partnership and innovation.
