We recently hosted Explore Research in Taiwan: TEEP Internship Opportunities at NCKU, bringing together speakers from NCKU Taiwan, Prof Cheng-Ta Yang from Department of Psychology and Assoc. Prof. Yan-Jye Shyong from School of Pharmacy and Miss Alice Chen, from Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia (TECO) to share how students can gain international research experience. The session highlighted not only the opportunities available, but also practical insights on how to start your journey.
Taiwan continues to stand out as a top study destination, offering globally ranked universities, a safe and multicultural environment, and strong support for international students. With over 140,000 international students and a wide range of scholarships such as the MOE Taiwan Scholarship, ICDF Scholarship, and Mandarin Learning Scholarship, it provides both quality education and accessibility .
At the heart of the session was the Taiwan Experience Education Program (TEEP), a government-endorsed initiative that offers short-term research internships. Students can receive a monthly stipend of around TWD 15,000, gain hands-on experience in real laboratories, and choose from over 700 research projects across disciplines, with flexible durations of 2 to 6 months.
The webinar also gave a closer look into research opportunities at NCKU. From psychology labs exploring brain, behaviour, and AI collaboration using tools like VR and EEG, to pharmacy labs working on cutting-edge innovations such as cancer therapies, nanomedicine, and gene delivery systems which students can truly immerse themselves in impactful research environments.
For those interested in applying, the process is straightforward but requires initiative. Students are encouraged to contact professors directly, prepare key documents such as a CV, research plan, and recommendation letter, and explore available programs throughout the year.
The key takeaway? This is more than just an internship — it’s a gateway to global exposure, research experience, and future academic or career opportunities in Taiwan.
