WORKSHOP “AI IN ACADEMIA AND BEYOND: INSIGHTS, OPPORTUNITIES & SCHOLARSHIP PATHWAYS”

On the morning of June 17th, 2025, NCKU Overseas Hub in Vietnam coordinated with the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Engineering, NCKU and the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering - Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, VNU-HCM to successfully organize the Workshop “AI in Academia and Beyond: Insights, Opportunities & Scholarship Pathways”. The event took place in parallel in two forms: in person at the University of Technology - VNU-HCM and online via the Webex and Facebook Livestream platforms.

The program was moderated by Dr. Ngo Thi Minh Hien and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Hoang Anh, bringing a lively and friendly atmosphere with the introduction of the purpose of the Workshop, Professors, Speakers, and at the same time sent thanks to the participants. The two Moderators also reviewed the achievements of the participants throughout the program organization process.

  • Participants: 39% Undergraduate students, 35% University Staff, 17% Graduate Students, 5% Industry, 2% Hospital, 1% Highschool Students, 1% Government.

WORKSHOP SESSION

In order to connect international study opportunities to Vietnamese students, Prof. Shyh-Hau Wang - Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Engineering, NCKU - opened with an overview of NCKU and the Faculty's Master's/PhD scholarships, training programs and outstanding research groups.

The Workshop content continued with professional presentations from Professors and Speakers from NCKU and HCMUT, with updated topics revolving around Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications:

The presentations not only provided in-depth knowledge but also opened up an interdisciplinary perspective between AI - Education - Biomedical - Life, inspiring strong research inspiration for attendees.

SCHOLARSHIP INTERVIEW - NCKU GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP INTERVIEW

In addition to the academic sharing, the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Engineering - NCKU conducted a scholarship interview with five excellent candidates.

The candidates were able to demonstrate their study orientation and research plan, and directly discuss with the Professors to assess their suitability for the program at NCKU. After reviewing, 4 profiles have been qualified and recommended by Professors, which supports in the admission process.

The interview was not only an opportunity to select potential students but also a networking and Q&A session, helping candidates better understand the expectations and graduate admission process at NCKU.

FUTURE COLLABORATION & SITE VISIT

The program ended with a discussion between NCKU Professors and representatives from the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, HCMUT, on summer internship programs, visiting lecturer programs, joint research programs and dual degree programs like 4 + 1 for 4 years of Undergraduate and 1 year of Master study, and 4 + 4 for 4 years of Undergraduate leading directly to PhD. Program.

In addition, the Professors visited the facilities and research labs of the Faculty at the Ly Thuong Kiet campus of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - VNU-HCM, opening up directions for cooperation and development in the future.
