THE 14th NCKU ALUMNI CARNIVAL IN VIETNAM

The “14th National Cheng Kung University Alumni Carnival" is the most special occasion for all the alumni of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU). The biennial Carnival represents NCKU’s efforts to maintain a caring and communicative relationship with all alumni to strengthen connections around the world and conduct extensive exchanges in the fields of culture, education, economy, and many other fields. The 14th NCKU Alumni Carnival lasted for two days from November 3rd to 4th at The Grand Ho Tram Strip in Xuyen Moc, Vung Tau, Vietnam.

The carnival was sponsored 2.890.000 NT ($ 89.000) by Alumni Association around the world and drew a diverse crowd of enthusiastic attendees: 510 guests on the first day and 551 guests on the second day for the reunion. It was well-organized with activities: investment meeting, golf tournament, banquet, musical performance,...The event honors the presences of President - Prof. Meng-Ru Shen, Former President - Prof. Huey-Jen Su, Executive Vice President - Prof. Yuh-Neu Chen, Executive Vice President - Prof. Woei-Jer Chuang, Dean of College of Engineering - Prof. Chyan Deng Jan, Chairman of Dept. Of Surgery - Prof. Jing-Wei Lee, Chairman of the Department of Physics - Prof. Chin-Chun Tsai, and representatives from large Taiwanese industrial corporations.

Day 1: November 3rd, 2023 (Friday)

At 5:00 p.m. NCKU Alumni Carnival 2023 commenced with an Opening Party at The Grand Ho Tram, Vung Tau. The Carnival began with a welcome speech from Mr. Hsieh Jau-Hwang - Honorary Chairman of NCKU Vietnam Alumni Association, who shared his welcome to all the guests from around the world, and sincerely thanked President Pham Viet Cuong, NCKU OH in Vietnam for the great efforts in organizing the event. He hoped that “The two-day carnival is not only a time for celebration and reunion but also an opportunity for alumni to connect and bond. The organizers hope that you, our esteemed alumni and faculty, not only enjoy the delicious Vietnamese cuisine that was prepared but also embark on a journey to experience the beauty and culture of Vietnam”. He believes that each of the participants will leave with cherished and heartwarming memories.”

Next is the speech of Prof. Meng-Ru Shen - President of NCKU, who delivered the keynote speech and expressed his delighted mood about his first time in Vietnam, it was like visiting family members all around the world. President Shen also shows his proud gratitude “NCKU is very lucky to be one of the few comprehensive universities on education and facilities in Taiwan. The greatest asset of NCKU is that it has 220,000 alumni distributed all over the world. NCKU will always work hard to improve its prestigious in Taiwan and around the world. I hope everyone will work together to achieve the centenary of NCKU.”

Following the welcoming speech, President of Global Alumni Association - Chairman Chen Chi-Hung “The Global Alumni Association is a resource platform that unites NCKU alumni worldwide. It offers various platforms like the Phoenix Fund, Startup101, International Forum Platform, and Distinguished Alumni, where alumni serve as on-campus entrepreneurs or mentors to provide mutual assistance and create a positive cycle. It connects alumni strength globally, preserving intergenerational bonds and legacies, serving as NCKU's vital support”. He mentioned the purpose of the carnival and thanked all the alumni present.

Morning: Investment Meeting

Investment Meeting on the morning of November 4th

On the morning of November 4th, the Investment Meeting “Experiences of Taiwanese Businessmen in Vietnam” with presences of VIP, special guests from Taiwan Industry: CSC, QISDA, TAISUN, CHAILEASE HOLDING, IKANG, MEIJI MEATS CO., LTD., DWIP, POLYSTYRENE, DAIKIN, 宇全金屬門窗 hold by NCKU Alumni Association in Vietnam took place at The Grand Ho Tram Strip.

The aims of the meeting are to highlight outstanding achievements and sharing of Taiwanese entrepreneurs to share experience, business models, exchange economic knowledge, etc. They highlighted the value of shared knowledge and the potential for personal and professional growth through mentorship and collaboration.

The Investment meeting ended with panel discussions, and networking opportunities created an environment that encouraged collaboration, learning, and the exchange of ideas. Attendees left the meeting with a renewed sense of motivation, armed with new knowledge and connections to support their journeys.

EVENING: Gala Dinner

The Gala night of the 14th NCKU Alumni Carnival on November 4th opened the show with an energetic animation song about the theme of the 14th Carnival. It was "Together We Bloom" which is represented by the Banyan trees’ Growth, Strength and Connection. The image of the tree expresses the values ​​of growth from the roots gradually growing stronger to the trunk and then connecting together to form a large canopy that sprouts, and from there blooms with 14 phoenix flowers corresponding to the 14th NCKU Alumni Carnival. Besides, the images of buildings represent the scenic beauty of Vietnam and Taiwan.

Continuously, started off with the highlight of the carnival - the Flag Parade of 20 NCKU Alumni Associations around the world: Global Alumni Association, Taipei Alumni Association, Taichung Alumni Association, Tainan Alumni Association, Kaohsiung Alumni Association, Tainan City EMBA Association, Taipei EMBA Alumni Association, East China Alumni Association, Southern California (Los Angeles) Alumni Association, Northern California (San Francisco) Alumni Association, Northwest District (Seattle) Alumni Association, New England (Boston) Alumni Association, Greater New York Area Alumni Association, Greater Washington Area Alumni Association, Midwest (Chicago) Alumni Association, North Texas (Dallas) Alumni Association, Hong Kong Alumni Association, Indonesian Alumni Association, Malaysian Alumni Association, Vietnam Alumni Association which excited the alumni, symbolizing the spirit from all over the world now gathered in Vietnam.

Firstly, Vice President - Prof. Woei-Jer Chuang, delivered a welcoming speech and thanked the NCKU Alumni Association of Vietnam for showing a sense of honor and effort to organize this carnival. Prof. Chuang said that Taiwan is recognized by the world as a livable place, and everyone is welcome to return to the country to travel and start businesses.

During the Gala Night, special recognition was given to individuals who had made significant contributions to organizing the carnival.

At the end of the program, The President of the Vietnam Alumni Association, Dr. Pham Viet Cuong the Association’s Flag was handed over to the President of the Greater Washington Alumni Association (Washington, USA), which will be hosted at the 15th Alumni Carnival in 2025.

Mr. Hsieh Jau-Hwang and Mr. Pham Viet Cuong implemented the ritual to hand over the NCKU alumni flag to the alumni representative of Washington D.C.

The 14th NCKU Alumni Carnival offers opportunities for NCKU OH to expand NCKU OH networking through more than 500 alumni from around the world, seeking valuable connections, and enhancing the potential Academia-Industry Cooperation between NCKU and Taiwanese in the joint research programs, educational workshops, and scholarships and recruit the talented students.
