💥 To assist candidates in updating information about NCKU 2024 Fall Admission, NCKU Overseas Hub in Vietnam organized the 5th annual scholarship program - Webinar "Road to National Cheng Kung University" on March 6th with the esteemed presence of Sovannaphumi School and Speakers from the Office of International Affairs (OIA); Chinese Language Center (CLC); Department of Biotechnology and Bioindustrial Sciences; Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing (AISSM); Institute of International Management (IMBA); Department of Mechanical Engineering.
💥 Through the registration link, the event received a massive response from candidates: 32% Graduate Students, 31% Undergraduate Students, 18% University Staff, 9% High School Students, 4% Industry, 3% Government, 1% Hospitals, 2% Others. In addition, the scholarship program was broadcast live to approximately 3,000 students at Sovannaphumi School, Cambodia.

💥 Commencing the event, Dr. Minh Hien - Director of NCKU Overseas Hub in Vietnam expressed her appreciation to Ms. Meav Vanneath - Public Relations Manager of Sovannaphumi School, the Speakers and participants and introduced the aim of the Webinar.

💥 The Webinar started with Ms. Ada Huang and Ms. Angela Chen from OIA-NCKU. Firstly, Ms. Ada Huang introduced outstanding achievements at NCKU:
- Global university with 11 Colleges, 51 Departments and 43 Institutes, ranking 1st among Universities in Taiwan in the SDG Impact Rankings, and ranking 42nd and 228th respectively in the SDG Impact Rankings and QS World University Rankings;
- Strong NCKU community: 210.000 Alumni, 12.159 Undergraduate Students, 10.923 Graduate Students, 2.157 lecturers, 2.199 staff. NCKU especially attracts 1.981 international students/graduates from more than 76 countries.
Notes on application time and required documents are also mentioned to candidates, with some notable changes such as the registration fee of 2.000 NT or language requirement. She continued to share about the Government's monthly subsidy scholarship programs up to 30,000 NT such as MOE, MOFA, MOST, etc. In addition, NCKU's scholarships are also captivating with tuition subsidies and monthly stipends (highest at 33,000 NT for PhD programs).

💥 Continuing with the Division of Study Abroad, Manager Ms. Angela introduced the 5-month student exchange program at NCKU including the 2024 Fall semester (deadline: April 10, 2024) and 2025 Spring semester (deadline: October 15, 2024) along with the opportunity to learn Chinese for free at the Chinese Language Center. She also said that the Taiwan Experience Education Program (TEEP) internship program helps students experience the educational program in Taiwan and connect with the job market in Asia (deadline: December 2024), and The International Internship Pilot Program (IIPP) helps students intern for 3 months at Universities in Taiwan (deadline: October 2024). Finally, she encouraged Vietnamese students/researchers as well as international candidates to take advantage of the above exchange programs to develop their learning opportunities.

💥 Next, Associate Dean Prof. Jen-Sue Chen gave an overview of AISSM and introduced five programs: IC Design, Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology, Semiconductor Packaging and Testing, Key Materials, Smart & Sustainable Manufacturing. NCKU AISSM is the most dynamic and integrated environment in Taiwan connecting more than 70 industry partners, along with opportunities to work at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company for students (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing). Regarding the scholarship program, the Professor introduced an extremely valuable scholarship program for exchange students and Master's students with ranges from 315-630 USD/month and for PhD students up to 1.260 USD/month.

💥 The third introduction came from the Department of Biotechnology and Bioindustrial Sciences, Dean Prof. Woei-Jiun Guo introduced the two main research momentum including Agriculture & Aquaculture and Biomedical Group. Professors encourage candidates to learn about Department’s research papers so they can choose the appropriate research direction. In addition, the Professor shared more about the 3+2 dual degree program with USA Purdue University and Sweden KTH Royal Institute of Technology. The Agriculture & Aquaculture Sector focuses on Immunology & Disease, Plant Physiology & Biotechnology, Development & Physiology, Algae & Bacteria and Protein Structure, while the Biomedical Group studies Inflammation, Cancer, Neural Disease, Regenerative Medicine, Aging, Protein Structure, Bioinformatics and Protein Array. Along with that are extremely impressive research achievements: more than 500 SCI articles and 129 patents, support from the Government of more than 3 million USD per year and technology transfer fee of more than 1 million USD. Besides a strong network of connections with industry, the Department also invests in state-of-the-art laboratory facilities to create the best conditions for students to study.

💥 Coming to the next presentation, Prof. Yu-Yu Chang introduced an overview of the mission and the research directions of Professors including areas such as Management, Information Systems, Finance, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship. Next, the Professor shared details about the Master and Doctoral course map and the dynamic learning environment here. The Institute of Management's achievements have been demonstrated through attracting a large international student/researcher body (162 enrolled students in the 2024 Spring semester) and an international alumni community (798 students come from 67 different countries).

💥 Next was the presentation of Ms. Jia-Jia Hou from the Chinese Language Center. She excitedly shared about the program including getting acquainted with Chinese characters, level placement tests and free cultural programs. The Center offers 4 seasonal programs (10-11 weeks) and a short-term summer program (5 weeks), classes will classified into 2 types: small groups (up to 13 members) or 1 on 1. The program helps students approach Chinese not only through lectures but also through several activities imbued with Taiwanese cultural identity. In addition, candidates can apply for scholarships at the Center such as CLC General Scholarship with support of 36,000 NT for 6 months, and Huayu Enrichment Scholarship with monthly allowance of 25,000 NT.

💥 Finally, Prof. Chih-Hsing Liu introduced outstanding information about the history of the establishment of the Department of Mechanical Engineering (one of the three Departments first established at NCKU) along with information about the Department and the 5 main research areas including Thermal and Fluid Science, Solid Mechanics, Mechanical Design, Materials & Manufacturing and System & Control. In addition, the Professor emphasized international collaborations with Universities in Germany, the US and the UK, creating potential opportunities for students/researchers to study at the Department.

💥 The Webinar became exciting with questions continuously asked from interested candidates. The Speakers were also enthusiastic when answering directly and interactively through the virtual screen. Ms. Ada Huang explained some important information when applying for a scholarship: One account can apply to up to 3 Departments; Require financial statement of at least 4.000 USD to ensure candidates in case of ineligibility for scholarships in subsequent years or emergency cases; Make sure to provide 2 letters of recommendation; Read carefully the English/Chinese requirements of each Department; Prepare a checklist of documents to ensure document completion (even the additional documents).

💥 The event, after nearly 3 hours of broadcasting, attracted 812 participants from Facebook and Cisco and 10 countries around the world: Vietnam, Taiwan, Cambodia, Malaysia, United States, Thailand, Japan, Philippines, Canada and India.
