The event "Online Training Course" on the topic of 3D Printing and Biodesign was held on September 23 and 24 with great success. With the participation of speakers from leading Universities in Taiwan and Vietnam. The conference shared and updated the core knowledge about 3D printing and the application of 3D printing in life, especially in the medical field, as well as how to create and develop an idea on paper into a model complete.

On this occasion, the training course has attracted over 500 pre-register from the world such as Vietnam, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines, India, Korea, etc. with many different occupations as Students, University Staff, Industry and Government. This is such a remarkable number.

In the beginning, the “Opening Remark” was started with the speech of Prof. Pham Le An of GIC and Prof. Chih-Han Chang from MDIC, NCKU. Prof. An and Prof. Chang emphasized the important role of 3D printing technology in contemporary society as well as many applications and the impact of 3D printing on many fields of life.

Following the schedule is the topic: “Design Thinking” from Prof. Peng-Ting Chen. Prof. Chen introduced with viewers 5 stages in the design thing process through the empathy, define, ideate, prototype to the test processing when making 3D printing.

Next is the part of: “BioDesign -Needs Finding & Screening” and “Ideation & Concept Selection” from Prof. Wei-Chen Lin. Prof. Lin showed the SCOPE (Situation, Constraints, Objectives, and Outcomes, People, Estimates, Scope) techniques that mentioned the procedure in building for the Design thinking project. Prof. Lin made the class more exciting by dividing the participants into 7 small group sessions, each from 5 – 7 persons and they would have the discussion about the new ideas for medical devices or healthcare systems improvements based on the SCOPE techniques.

The second day of the Online Training Course started with the presentation about: “Innovation in Biomedical Translational Research: Taking Medical Devices as Examples” from Prof. Jia-Jin Chen. Prof. Chen shared the pros and cons of product commercialization from the point of view of academic and business, commercialization pathway, and successful case studies in the Taiwan Healthcare ecosystem.

In the middle of the day, the speech entitled: “3D Printing in clinical application” was instructed by Prof. Yu-Sheng Lin and Dr. Chen-Husn Weng. They are specialists in 3D printing and had already organized a Workshop about 3D printing in UMP 2 years ago. With their valuable experiences, the viewers gain more knowledge on how to complete the 3D printing model which started from the idea on paper.

The remaining half-day is the presentation from Vietnam representatives in UMP and Besins Healthcare France. The first introduction under the point of view of Dr. Nguyen Thanh Danh to share with everyone about: “Trend and challenges in Digital Healthcare at Vietnam – Market access for medical devices” through the impact of a covid-19 pandemic on the healthcare services, the updated policies of Ministry of Health in Vietnam in medical devices field and the potential of digital healthcare systems in the Vietnam market.

The next part is the speech of Dr. Hoang Trong Hung with the topic: “3D-Printer in Clinical Dentistry: Reality in Vietnam’s Market” to help everyone gain knowledge about 3D printer application in Clinical work, dental research, and dental education.

And the final presentation entitled: “Introduction of Grant & Innovation Center” from Prof. Assoc. Prof. Pham Le An and Dr. Tran Ngoc Dang provide for viewers about the GIC missions as the bridge to connect Academy with Industry by creating much useful training course to help the young generation researcher to establish a background for project application, publication review and data analysis. GIC as well as created network cooperation with other Universities, Hospitals, and Enterprises to make the medical devices.

The duration of this Workshop will be arranged in 2 days, September 23rd and 24th. NCKU OH in Vietnam hopes all viewers and participants will gain much practical information about 3D printing and Biodesign, especially this will provide everyone with many essential factors to lead the new trend and get the golden key for 4.0 transformation.

On FB, our video Livestream reached 2000 views in less than 24 hours. Not only in Vietnam and Taiwan but our video was also affected by the number of viewers from other countries such as Malaysia, the Philippines, Canada, France, Germany, Thailand, and Indonesia.

Enhance the interaction between NCKU and other Institutions in Europe and Southeast Asia.
