Dr. Duong Duc Long introduced Dr. Doan Lam Tu to be the first person to present his speech in this Workshop and Dr. Tu’s topic is “Peri-implant soft tissue augmentations to enhance functional and cosmetic outcomes”.
Dr. Duong Duc Long – Moderator
Dr. Doan Lam Tu kicked off the Workshop with his engaging presentation, he expressed his delight and honor to be in the Workshop to share the hottest topic about Peri implant soft tissue augmentation to optimize aesthetic, functional and biological outcomes of implant therapy in the short and long run. He showed 3 criterias for peri implant soft tissue and gave detailed images of his procedure. He also used the biomaterial for his procedure and got remarkable results.
Dr. Doan Lam Tu with his topic “Peri-implant soft tissue augmentations to optimize functional and esthetic outcomes”
Continuously, Mr. Chun Shen Yang (Johnson) gave a presentation titled "Total solution of hard/soft tissue reconstruction". To begin, Mr. Johnson claimed his company's mission was to apply biomaterials from animal sources to regenerate human defected tissues and organs. Ultimately becomes the global leader in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. He continuously shares about ACRO Biomedical company’s products for Soft and Hard tissue reconstruction: ABCcolla Natural Collagen Dental Bone Graft, ABCcolla Collagen Membrane, ABCcolla Collagen Matrix. He also provided successful cases using biomaterials. At the end, Mr. Johnson hopes one day people do not need to wait for donated tissues and organs. Tissue and organ transplantation become easily available and affordable.
Mr. Johnson shared to all participants the topic: “Total solution of hard/soft tissue reconstruction”
The following speaker is Dr. Kai Yuan Hsiao. His presentation was titled "Comparing the outcomes of applying collagen matrix and split-thickness skin graft in repairing buccal mucosa defect". Dr. Hsiao displayed the outline including: wound healing with STSG, Application of STSG in NCKUH, Application of ABC Colla Collagen.
The speech with the topic “Comparing the outcomes of applying collagen matrix and split-thickness skin graft in repairing buccal mucosa defect” was presented by Dr. Kai Yuan Hsiao
He also showed some cases and compared the difference between STSG and FTSG clearly. In conclusion, Dr. Hsiao claimed that Collagen matrix could be a reliable substitution to STSG if donor site morbidity is concerned; Small sample size of study leads to more cases needed!
Moderator Dr. Kim Chi introduced a group National Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology Group of Dr. Pham Nhat Quang and Dr. Hoang Thi Huong to present their topic “Cleft palate fistula closure utilizing acellular dermal matrix”.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Chi – Moderator
Dr. Quang and Dr. Huong began the presentation with the definition of Cleft lip & Cleft Palate, and the statistics of the disease. The goal off palatal surgery is to close the communication between the oral cavity and the nasal cavity, and to build a functional soft palate that allows for good speech and she also gave four main reasons lead to the disease: closure under tension, vascular accidents, experience and techniques of surgeons, post-operative infection. They continued to display and present the purposes of fistula closure surgery, recent methods for ONF NAF, the applications of using Acellular Dermal Matrix (ADM) for treatment and final result of using ADM “Use of ADM products is commonplace. Further randomized controlled trials are required”. Finally, they showed the advances of ADM in ONF&NAF fistula closure, especially ABCcolla Collagen Matrix by some reality cases and the results are very good.
Dr. Hoang Thi Huong and Dr. Pham Nhat Quang, enthusiastically shared their topics, “Cleft palate fistula closure utilizing acellular dermal matrix”
Last but not least, Dr. Ying Ying Chang delighted in sharing her research “Clinical application of collagen materials in various soft and hard tissue defects”. First of all, Dr. Chang showed a treatment case about lack of keratinized gingiva and explained why thin mucosa thickness is hard to close the wound leading to the drawback: limited graft size, patient discomfort and pain, a secondary surgical site and postoperative complications of donor site. Next is comparing to the biomaterials applying on soft-tissue replacement, she showed 2 types of biomaterials; xenogeneic (animal-based) and its advantages: both xenogeneic collagen matrices (CM and ECM) are effective in maintaining soft thickness and WKT when combined with FDBA for ridge preservation after tooth extraction.

The Q&A session followed the speakers' presentations. Dr. Doan Lam Tu received a remarkable question about his research “From your experience, while applying our Collagen Matrix (ABCcolla, product of ACRO Biomedical Company) to request the auto-graft for the soft tissue augmentation?”; Mr. Johnson also received a thank you comment and the question: “How can we improve biomaterials in hard and soft tissue reconstruction? Does the structure of this biomaterial similar to porcelain teeth?”. The questions for Dr. Kai Yuan Hsiao: “Are there a size limitation for the collagen membrane to cover the wound; Are there any differences between a cross-linked and non-cross-linked collagen matrix?” Questions for both Dr. Hoang Thi Huong and Dr. Pham Nhat Quang: “what is the two-stage procedure of tongue flap technique? could you explain more about the healing process of Acellular Dermal Matrix and do you think it is a better alternative to autograft? Have you tried to close the CPD with bone graft simultaneously, or you prefer to do it in separate procedures?” Dr. Ying Ying Chang also received questions: “What do you think about injectable collagen such as bovine dermal collagen? What kind of points do you find that collagen materials have a better potential for clinical application in soft and hard tissue defects than others?; Can you suggest the factors that contributed to the decrease of initial volume of graft?”. All the questions have been clarified in detail by the Speakers during the QA part.
